Assault Charges
There are numerous statutes and potential charges for assault and assault-related crimes in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Some are codified by the degree of the severity of the assault, others by the nature of the assault (for example, “felonious sexual assault”, “indecent assault and battery”). Still others vary by the characteristics of the victim. Examples of these are “assault and battery on a police officer”, “domestic assault”, etc.
Assault charges can result in serious criminal penalties, including incarceration, possible requirements to report under the sex offender registry, and may have other severe consequences upon the life of the accused. It is very important to consult with an attorney immediately upon learning you are suspected of any kind of assault. Always be mindful that when police contact you to discuss an assault case that they perceive you as a possible suspect / defendant.
